What is EC fan

The evolution of plant-based burger “Beyond Meat”, which the meat looks and tastes like real beef goes viral and its mission is to help create a more sustainable food system and avoid carbon footprint. EC fan shares similar concept. EC fan combines the advantage of AC and DC fan. It converts AC to DC current. The fan motor operates with DC current, which saves power consumption (less carbon footprint) and has superior fan speed compared to AC fan, less wear of bearing, lower vibration, low noise and longer life expectancy.
What is EC fan
EC (Electronic Commutated) Technology enables to operate under both AC and DC voltages, ranging from 380V, 220V, 110V to 48V, 24V and 12V. EC fan runs in a brushless DC motor, which does not spark or shorten life span due to brushes. It’s controlled by external electronic circuit board which offers great controllability and higher efficiency. The brushless DC motor has smaller size and can achieve same output as tradition DC or AC motors, which has better performance and the non-rotating part of the motor (stator) makes room for an electronic PCB board and saves space as well.
 
 

Difference between AC, DC and EC fan
 
Motor is what differentiates EC, AC and DC fan.
AC motor uses coil powered and controlled by AC input voltage. The AC motor has a limited rpm range due to fixed line frequency, and only the voltage can be changed, but reducing the voltage also reduces torque and efficiency.

 
DC motor relies on carbon brushes and a commutation ring to switch the direction of the current and magnetic field polarity in a rotating armature. Speed can be adjusted over a modest range by adjusting the voltage, although torque decreases as the speed increases.
EC motor has a brushless motor, offers wide ranges of speed, controllability, high efficiency, low noise and longer life expectancy.

AC motor has the efficiency range of 20 to 50%, DC motor is 60 to 80% and EC motor can reach 90% respectively.
