Solution for limited space application – vapor chamber
The silent heat solver – vapor chamber

Did you ever encounter the limited space, prerequisite low noise, and a tight budget for thermal solution? No panic, here is the answer – vapor chamber. Wide compatibility and comprehensive possibility of application make it stands out from others as a second to none option.

Following we will guide you through the essence of vapor chamber.

  • Introduction of vapor chamber
  • Manufacturing capability and quality assurance
  • Suitable conditions for vapor chamber
  • Practical application of vapor chamber

Let’s start by figuring out why vapor chamber is named as the silent heat solver.

Vapor chamber is similar to heat pipe in flat copper plate form, filled with working fluid.
It is vacuumed and then injected with just enough liquid (e.g. water) to wet the wick.

Liquid changes to vapor phase bringing the heat from evaporation section in all directions to cooling zone (condenser), followed by the capillary force of wick brings working fluid back to evaporation section and continue the cycle

Planar heat transmission enables vapor chamber to be superior to heat pipes, which transfer heat in one direction only. Moreover, it can be part of the heat sink base and improves the heat sink’s heat transfer capabilities.

Manufacturing capability and quality assurance
There are different types of vapor chambers from general to ultra-thin ones, of which the thickness can be as slim as 0.48mm and achieve various thermal capacities in different applications. Dimension and thickness are the factors that dominate the heat dissipation performances. (See chart below). Our vapor chambers are carefully inspected under strictest testing procedures of 100% Helium leak test, on-line ageing test and thermal resistance test.

General Vapor chamber thermal capacity

Suitable conditions for vapor chamber
Vapor chamber’s unique characteristics make it the predominant thermal solutions in following oft-seen circumstances,

  • Limited ambient height
  • Lightweight needed
  • High power density
  • Restrained airflow and high ambient temperature.

Practical application of vapor chamber

Mobile Devices
Devices like mobile phones used on a daily basis with the booming 5G technology, batteries and processors generate tremendous heat that may result in overheat issues. Ultra-thin vapor chamber has various thickness and can reach thermal capacity of 1mm for 14w, 0.5mm for 6w and 0.45mm for 5w respectively. It is a perfect  solution for mobile devices and can dissipate the heat quickly, as well as avoid possible dreadful failures.

LED cooling
Vapor chamber is used for heat dissipation in the field of automotive LED application.
A research in 2011 indicated that LED temperature from 112.7°C to 80.7°C and reduced thermal resistance by 56% by adopting a vapor chamber filled with distilled water.

Server cooling
Vapor chambers are increasingly applied in server cooling due to the features of compact size and lightweight which allow them to fit in limited spaces, particularly in applications with highly dense components. High strength VC in pure copper material can dissipate heat in working temperature up to 130°C. Using vapor chamber as the base of a stamped aluminium fin heat sink could optimize performance by 25-30%.
