With the growing demand and decarbonization, electric vehicle’s sale is booming. Electric vehicles don’t only produce fewer carbon emissions, but also offer leading technology such as Autonomous Driving. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) defines 6 levels of driving automation ranging from 0 (fully manual) to 5 (fully autonomous), see definition below. For instance, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology is a Level 2 system.

Autonomous Drive VS Thermal Solution
URLLC
Autonomous cars drive millions of miles on the road, and extensive research and development are required to ensure safety and reliability. Ultra-Reliable – Low- Latency (URLLC) is the key enabler in upcoming 5G communication especially in autonomous driving. It supports diverse mission-critical services, such as industrial automation, remote healthcare, and intelligent transportation, industrial automation, and remote healthcare. All data are collected to the server for sharing, thus the server thermal management is significant for the transmitting speed.

ADAS
Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) collects data from road infrastructure, detect the neighboring cars to avoid crashes, reduce traffic jams and give way to emergency vehicles. Thermal solutions like thermal module are applied for ADAS, forged and liquid cooling for IGBT and GPU cooler for display.

Charging Point
Charging points are indispensable for electric vehicles and they range from AC, DC charger and charging module. What they have in common, is impeccable thermal management. Subject to the charging inlet, AC, DC fan and heat sinks can be adopted as thermal solutions.

Product Application
The net reach of an electric vehicle is also noticeably dependent on the operating temperature of the battery. In addition to the concept for thermal connectivity of the energy source, the “car of tomorrow” also requires solutions for electrical components in the areas of LED, sensor technology, on-board network, and inverter, one of the core elements of the electric powertrain. Commonly used thermal solutions for automotive products are as follows.

Die-Casted Heat Sink
Heat Pipe
Vapor Chamber
